    How did my koi fish die?

    Hi friends,
    My friend gave me a koi fish last night and this morning it was dead. My mom thought it died because we were supposed to wash the decorations before putting it in the bowl with the fish because it had some chemicals or something... is that why it died or is there some other reason?

    Hello,

    I am not an expert by no means, but Koi's really aren't indoor fish. With that said I would think you would have to put a chiller on the tank if keeping them indoor to keep the water very cool.
    What was the temp of the water?
    Was the fish breathing hard the whole time it was in it new home?

    I have a few Koi in my pond outside and never take them out I think they like cool water and not warm.

    Well is your fish was in a bowl? Is that so, the koi produced tons of ammonia that quickly built up to toxic levels in the bowl. He was burned, his gills were burned stopped working, and he died from ammonia poisoning.
