    okay, I first want to start off by saying I absolutely hate those Tetra submersible heaters. Around 7 years ago when I got into fish I picked up a submersible Tetra heater from Walmart thinking it would be a nice heater for my 55 gallon tank. I went to feed the fish one day (not long after purchasing the heater) and noticed it was really sparking and all of sudden it totally blew up inside my tank, now at this time I mean I was totally freaking out! I didnt no what to do so we first hit the power breaker for the main for the house and then I unplugged the heater and got it out of the tank. I would never ever again purchase this heater again and I would recommend anyone that needs a heater to totally avoid the whisper tetra heater at all costs. I would highly recommend anyone to use a visi therm stealth heater or a ebo jager heater those heaters are totally worth there weight in gold!


    what have you had success with and what have you had bad luck with?

    I have had great success w/ Emperor filters,..i have
    6 Emp400's and 2 Emp280's that have been running strong
    for several years,..they work great!! I also use Jager
    heaters and have never had a problem to date,..As far
    as junkiest equip, the only thing the comes to mind is
    an undergravel filter i used,..i could never keep params
    in check on that tank,..once i learned about these,..i
    threw it in the trash:)

    Thanks Cam for the reply. Yea I have heard great things about emperor filters theyre nice filters. Yeah I heard about them undergravel filters I havent used any but what I have been told is that they can be a real nightmare. I actually like those whisper hob power filters. I have heard so many people say whisper power filters were junk and I dont understand how they say that. I have had them for years now and they work nicely never once had a problem with them. I did remove that bio foam stuff they give you with them or else the filter will over flow, so I dont use it in mine. I also really like the rena xp3 canister filters to me there great filters and work nicely. I have a xp3 on my oscar tank and it does a nice job on it. Anyhow just thought I would see what everyones personal favorites and non favorite equipment is. Thank you Cam for the reply.

    Does anyone know how long a heater should last Question Question
    By the way Shaun how much are those heaters your talking about run for these days. I need to pic up another heater for a back up(and not let little brother con me outta using it)my brother borrowed my backup heater 6 months ago. Put me in a h*ll of a situation today.

    ya there very nice heaters I love mine. I am not sure how long one would last I would say it should give you many many years of great use. I think I would go with a visi therm stealth if I were you. I like the stealth a tad bit better then then ebo jager for a couple reasons the first reason is its black and it blends in with my background so its not really all that noticable. I like the second reason better though and the second reason is like if you forget to unplug it while doing water changes it will not stay running the heater will shut down automatically for you. I actually have forgotten to unplug a couple times and thankfully it had that feature or else it would of burnt up.

    Thanks Shaun I'm going to get a couple on my next order from there. Just got my order in today!!!!! Some of the juvie JD r devouring the tubiflex worms. Oh and there also eating the pellets good now. One of them is getting a little fat. LOL He eats like an :elephant: .
